Lara Trump steps down as RNC co-chair, says she ‘seriously considers’ Florida Senate seat

Lara Trump, a prominent figure in the Republican Party and daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced her resignation as chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

Her decision comes as speculation grows that she may seek to replace Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who has been tapped to serve as Secretary of State in Trump’s upcoming administration.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Trump confirmed her interest in the Senate seat. “It is something I would seriously consider,” she stated.

“If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”

Lara Trump, mother of two and wife of Eric Trump, was elected as RNC co-chair in March and played a pivotal role in the party’s recent electoral successes.

Under her leadership, the GOP secured victories in the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives. Reflecting on her tenure, she said, “With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up. What I intended to do has been done.”

In addition to her political work, Trump hosts The Right View, a podcast on Rumble, where she shares conservative perspectives. She noted the shifting dynamics within the GOP during her time at the RNC.

“The whole party has totally shifted and totally changed. I think people are feeling a little more bold in coming out with their political views,” she remarked.

During her tenure, Trump championed election integrity measures and encouraged early voting, a strategic pivot from the party’s stance in 2020. Co-chair Michael Whatley is expected to continue leading the RNC.

Marco Rubio’s impending departure from the Senate leaves Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with the responsibility of appointing a replacement to serve the remainder of Rubio’s term, which ends in 2026.

Lara Trump has also voiced strong support for initiatives in the upcoming Trump administration, including the newly created Department of Governmental Efficiency. Led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the advisory board aims to identify and eliminate government waste. “I really don’t think we’ve seen movement like this in our federal government since our country’s founding,” she said.

“If they are successful in what they plan to do, I think it is going to be transformative to America in a great way.”

With her resignation from the RNC and increasing attention on her potential Senate bid, Lara Trump’s next steps could further solidify her influence within the Republican Party.
