Man arrested after supplying free face shields to LA anti-ICE rioters with help from X

The FBI has arrested a man they believe was organizing and supplying free face shields to anti-ICE rioters in Los Angeles (LA).

Alejandro Theodoro Orellana was taken into custody Thursday morning and now faces a federal charge of conspiracy to commit civil disorder, according to U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli.

Essayli made the announcement via social media, stating, “We are moving quickly to identify and arrest those involved in organizing and/or supporting civil disorder in Los Angeles.” Authorities believe Orellana was instrumental in equipping rioters with personal protective equipment (PPE), including face shields intended to prevent identification and protect against police countermeasures.

According to federal investigators, Orellana allegedly drove a truck loaded with “Bionic Shield” face shields, which were handed out to rioters as violence unfolded across downtown Los Angeles.

Footage obtained by FOX11 News shows a group of protesters rushing the vehicle to grab shields and bottled water—items considered essential gear for protesters anticipating clashes with law enforcement.

The footage has raised concerns about organized efforts to escalate unrest, rather than spontaneous protest. In the video, individuals—many of whom wore masks and goggles—are seen grabbing gear with military-like coordination. Officials say these types of operations suggest a level of planning and intentional provocation far beyond lawful assembly.

Orellana’s arrest marks the latest move in an ongoing federal crackdown on violent agitators linked to recent protests that erupted over immigration enforcement operations in Southern California. Law enforcement sources indicate that more arrests are imminent as authorities sift through hours of surveillance video and social media content tied to the riots.

The violent demonstrations have already led to multiple federal charges. Earlier this week, two men were charged for possessing Molotov cocktails—one of whom allegedly hurled the homemade incendiary at sheriff’s deputies.

Meanwhile, the FBI is still searching for Elpidio Reyna, who was captured on video throwing cinderblocks at federal vehicles during the same protests. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, along with local and federal partners, has vowed to hold accountable anyone involved in organizing or aiding violent activities under the guise of protest.

As the investigation unfolds, officials continue to emphasize the distinction between peaceful demonstrations and coordinated civil disorder, warning that those who cross the line into criminal conduct will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
