US Marshal, illegal alien shot in Los Angeles immigration operation

A US Marshal and an illegal alien were both shot Tuesday during a tense immigration enforcement operation in Los Angeles.

The incident unfolded when federal agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) attempted to apprehend a suspect believed to be in the country illegally.

Agents reportedly surrounded and boxed in the suspect’s vehicle during the operation. Instead of surrendering, the driver allegedly tried to break free by ramming multiple federal vehicles, prompting officers to open fire in self-defense.

During the exchange, one U.S. Marshal was hit in the hand, reportedly by what authorities suspect was a ricocheted bullet. The illegal immigrant was struck in the elbow. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, and both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials say both are expected to survive their injuries.

Law enforcement sources have not yet released the identity of the suspect, and details surrounding the suspect’s immigration background, prior criminal history, or the purpose of the enforcement operation remain under investigation.

Federal agencies have since cordoned off the area while forensic teams and internal investigators review the scene. The Department of Justice and the Office of the Inspector General are expected to oversee the investigation, standard protocol whenever a federal officer discharges a weapon in the line of duty.

Local authorities are cooperating with federal investigators, and traffic in the surrounding area was temporarily shut down as agents collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

As of Tuesday evening, officials have not confirmed whether additional suspects were involved or if any weapons were recovered at the scene.

This remains a developing story. Updates will be provided as new details emerge from law enforcement and federal agencies.
