Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called for the removal of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, urging Governor Kathy Hochul to take action following the Department of Justice’s decision to drop its case against him.
On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez took to Bluesky, a left-leaning alternative to X, to voice her concerns. “Adams must be removed. The city cannot sustain being governed for nearly a year by a Mayor who is being coerced by the Trump administration in order to escape charges. This corruption poses a real threat to the people of the city. He should have resigned a while ago, but will not. So it’s time for him to go,” she wrote.

She also amplified an opinion piece from the New York Daily News calling for Hochul to intervene, arguing that Adams is involved in a “quid pro quo” arrangement with the Trump administration.
The article alleges that Adams has been working with federal immigration authorities to assist in the apprehension and deportation of illegal immigrants in exchange for the Department of Justice dropping its investigation into his campaign finances. The piece even describes Adams as a “hostage” of Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan.
The article directly appealed to Hochul, stating, “To Gov. Hochul, on behalf of our beloved New York City, please end this hostage negotiation now. For the sake of our city’s integrity and the safety of its residents, you must remove Adams from office.”
While Hochul has yet to make a definitive statement on the matter, she has not ruled out the possibility of taking action against Adams.
Ocasio-Cortez has also been at odds with Homan in recent days. On Friday, he criticized her for hosting a webinar that provided legal guidance to undocumented immigrants on how to handle encounters with ICE. Homan questioned whether her actions were obstructing law enforcement efforts and suggested they could constitute a crime.

"So maybe AOC is gonna be in trouble now, but I need the AOG to opine on that. Because impediment is impediment in my opinion!”pic.twitter.com/oWYjRb5vAO
“Let’s pray that she is not ‘educating’ the next murderer of a young college nursing student on how to evade arrest by ICE,” Homan told Fox News. “How many more young women have to be raped, murdered, and burned alive until she wakes up?”
In response, Ocasio-Cortez defended her efforts, emphasizing that she was ensuring ICE complied with the law.
“I am glad Mr. Homan is checking with the Department of Justice to familiarize himself with the limits of his agency’s authority in entering the homes of everyday Americans without a warrant,” she said in a statement to Fox News.
“And I am proud to offer civil education to everyday Americans to ensure ICE’s compliance with the law, given the numerous reports of agents providing incorrect paperwork in their attempts to enter and search private homes.”
She also reminded Homan that being undocumented in the U.S. is a civil offense, not a criminal one. “I look forward to continuing our work in ensuring the safety of everyday New Yorkers while keeping families together,” she added.
