A California official has raised concerns about the escalating illegal immigration crisis in San Diego, where Border Patrol facilities are overwhelmed and operating at full capacity. In response, authorities have implemented measures to manage the surge, but these actions are impacting other American cities.
San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond disclosed that when illegal immigrants arriving in San Diego cannot be accommodated, they are being flown to McAllen, Texas. Desmond took to X to highlight the situation, noting that after crossing the southern border illegally, migrants are processed by border agents and then transported to the San Diego Airport for flights to Texas.
“You might see this plane the next time you’re at the San Diego Airport,” Desmond wrote. “Every other day, this plane flies migrants from San Diego to McAllen, Texas, because Border Patrol facilities in San Diego are over capacity. Here’s the process: Migrants surrender to Border Patrol agents, are taken to a processing center, placed on a bus, and then flown to Texas—all funded by your tax dollars.”
Desmond criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies, blaming them for straining city resources and creating security risks. He also criticized San Diego’s sanctuary status, telling the Texas Scorecard that the city cannot handle more illegal immigrants.
On X, Desmond further remarked, “The border is still being overwhelmed, yet this administration continues to allow thousands into this country, further straining our resources and security.”
With Border Patrol facilities at full capacity, San Diego has been forced to find alternative solutions, such as housing illegal immigrants in hotels at taxpayer expense. In February, a local shelter for “asylum seekers” had to shut down after running out of funds due to accommodating too many people.
Additionally, the San Diego Airport has been used as a temporary holding center, where over 300 migrants were housed in November.
