52% of Americans think Biden should leave the White House, not just the race: poll

A recent Rasmussen poll revealed that a significant majority of voters approve of President Joe Biden’s decision not to run for re-election. However, a majority also believe that Biden should resign from office immediately.

The poll found that 76 percent of likely voters support Biden’s choice to step down from seeking another term, with only 18 percent disapproving. Additionally, 52 percent of Americans believe Biden should resign rather than finish out his term. The survey, conducted between July 22-24, included 1,074 likely voters and had a margin of error of 3 percent.

Participants were also asked how they think Biden will be remembered. The most common response was “the worst president ever,” selected by 29 percent of respondents, while 21 percent said he would be remembered as a bad president.

President Biden announced his decision last week via a statement on X, followed by an address from the Oval Office. Neither he nor the White House provided a direct reason for this decision. However, many speculate that Biden’s declining health and poor poll numbers against former President Donald Trump influenced the move, as the Democratic Party seeks a new nominee to bolster their chances in the upcoming election.

Critics argue that if Biden is unfit for a second term, he may also be unfit to complete his current term. This sentiment has led several politicians to call for Biden’s immediate resignation. Republican VP nominee JD Vance stated, “Everyone calling on Joe Biden to stop running without also calling on him to resign the presidency is engaged in an absurd level of cynicism. If you can’t run, you can’t serve. He should resign now.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed this sentiment, asserting that Biden should step down “immediately” after his announcement. “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately,” Johnson said.
