President Joe Biden is set to participate in a one-on-one interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt next week, marking his second cable TV appearance since his shaky debate performance raised concerns about his candidacy.
The interview will be taped on Monday in Austin, Texas, and will air in its entirety at 9 p.m. the same day, NBC News announced on Wednesday. This timing provides prime-time counterprogramming to the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. President Biden will be in Austin to visit the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library for the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.
Select portions of the interview will be broadcast during NBC Nightly News at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, but the full interview will be aired unedited at 9 p.m.
Biden’s sit-down with Holt follows his high-stakes interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos last Friday, which did not fully alleviate concerns within the Democratic Party about his candidacy. During that interview, Biden stated that he didn’t know if he watched the presidential debate afterwards, then he was asked to take a cognitive test, he refused.
The interview with Holt offers Biden another opportunity to embarrass himself and demonstrate his disability to run the country and it will serve a crucial moment to urge the Democrats to finally consider replacing him.
This will be Biden’s second interview with Holt during his presidency, the first being in February 2022, where they discussed the Covid-19 pandemic, inflation, and tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
