The House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries claims several Connecticut Democrats have received bomb threats on Thanksgiving, allegedly they were signed “MAGA.”
“Threats of violence against elected officials are unacceptable, unconscionable and have no place in a civilized society,” Jeffries’ office stated.
“All perpetrators of political violence directed at any party must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” they continued.
“In a statement, Jeffries said the messages received by the elected officials on Thanksgiving ranged from detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting, but all had one thing in common—the MAGA signature.”
According to Politico: “Each of the threats was “signed with ‘MAGA’ at the conclusion of the message,” the minority leader’s office said in a statement on Friday.”
“Nearly all of the House and Senate Democrats from Connecticut were the targets of bomb threats at their homes on Thursday, including Sen. Chris Murphy and Reps. Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, Jahana Hayes and Rosa DeLauro. Police did not find evidence of devices at the lawmakers’ residences, Jeffries’ office confirmed,” Politico also reported.
Hakeem Jefferies made the claims on Friday, after President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks were actually threatened with death threats earlier this week.
Reportedly some violent leftist’s made the threats against Trump’s picks, with bomb threats and swatting, on Wednesday. Although who sent the death threats was not identified.
President Trump’s spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday morning: “Last night and this morning, several of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them. These attacks ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting.’ In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted. President and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action.”
With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us,” Leavitt added.
The threats come after prominent Democrats like Bill Clinton, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have raised controversies about President Trump’s cabinet picks.
Here is the full statement from Hakeem Jefferies’ office:
“Yesterday, during Thanksgiving celebrations, several Democratic Members of Congress, their families and law enforcement officials were targeted with violent threats. These incidents ranged from detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting, all signed with “MAGA” at the conclusion of the message. Thanks to the swift reaction from law enforcement, no devices were found and Members of Congress and their families were kept safe on the holiday.
America is a democracy. Threats of violence against elected officials are unacceptable, unconscionable and have no place in a civilized society. All perpetrators of political violence directed at any party must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
House Democrats will not be deterred or intimidated from serving the people by violent threats. We have been in close communication with the Sergeant at Arms office and it is imperative that Congress provide maximum protection for all Members and their families moving forward.”
