President Joe Biden was spotted enjoying a leisurely day at his favorite Delaware beach on Wednesday, marking his second consecutive week away from the White House during an extended vacation.
The president spent around two hours at North Shores near Rehoboth Beach, DE, accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden and two of her sisters.
Biden looked at ease, dressed in swim trunks, a white T-shirt, and a black cap as he lounged on a beach chair. He appeared to be reviewing documents, possibly even official ones, according to the New York Post.
Since withdrawing from his bid for a second presidential term, Biden pledged to focus on promoting key policies during his remaining time in office. However, he hasn’t been seen at the White House for over 10 days and isn’t expected to return soon, especially with the Labor Day weekend approaching.
The president last visited the office on August 19 before departing for the Democratic Convention in Chicago. His late-night speech at the DNC, which was marked by Democratic infighting, effectively left him as a lame-duck president.
In that speech, Biden launched into a scathing critique of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, repeating several claims about the former president. Afterward, he appeared visibly shaken and struggled to disembark from Air Force One upon landing in California.
The Daily Mail reported that Biden’s speech may have been his final address to Democratic supporters, as tensions between him and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly escalated.
Biden had previously stated in a national interview that Pelosi had pressured him to withdraw from the Democratic presidential race, a claim that conflicted with his earlier assertion that “no one influenced” his decision to step aside. He had maintained that his withdrawal was intended to allow the party to focus on House and Senate races.
After his speech, Biden left Chicago and flew to Santa Ynez, California, where he stayed at the $37 million estate of Joe Kiani, CEO of the medical technology company Masimo, according to the New York Post.
Biden’s West Coast vacation lasted until Sunday, after which he returned to his vacation cottage in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He plans to remain there at least until Friday.
On Labor Day, Biden is scheduled to attend a rally in Pittsburgh, PA, in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, who secured the Democratic presidential nomination. It will be the first time the two have campaigned together since Biden exited the race.
