Former CNN anchor Don Lemon recently visited Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he was surprised to find many beachgoers expressing support for former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
In a video shared on Lemon’s TikTok account, a diverse group of voters in Atlantic City voiced their belief that Trump would win a second term and explained their reasons for backing him. One man pointed to his financial situation, stating, “Four years ago it was a lot better. I made a lot more money than I do now.”
Lemon attempted to challenge the man’s perspective by noting, “I know you feel that way, but that’s not actually what the record shows. The economy is actually better under Biden.” The man responded with laughter, dismissing Lemon’s assertion.
Lemon continued to insist, “No, I’m serious,” but the beachgoer remained unconvinced.
Another respondent, a woman, told Lemon, “I know nobody likes him, but we had good times with Donald Trump. The economy was good, life was good.”
Throughout these interactions, Lemon appeared taken aback by the widespread sentiment that the economy was better under Trump than under the Biden-Harris administration. Although he attempted to counter these opinions, Lemon did not provide specific data to support his claims.
The Biden-Harris administration has faced ongoing criticism for its economic policies, particularly as the unemployment rate has recently risen to its highest level since October 2021, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Additionally, inflation has driven up prices for groceries, gas, and fast food. Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged in a speech on Friday that the cost of food has become a significant burden, with some items now costing 50 percent more than they did before the pandemic, when Trump was still in office.
In a new poll by CBS News shows voters prefer Trump over Kamala by wide margins on major issues, including the economy, inflation, and the border.
