After a two-hour interview with former President Donald Trump on X, CEO Elon Musk extended an invitation to Vice President Kamala Harris for an interview on the platform. Following the Monday night interview, Musk posted on social media, “Happy to host Kamala on an X Spaces too.”
Harris has not held or scheduled any interviews since President Joe Biden withdrew from the race three weeks ago, leading to her nomination. However, after Trump’s interview with Musk, which drew over 1 billion views over all platforms, Harris’ campaign released a statement criticizing the event. The statement described Trump’s “extremism” and his “dangerous Project 2025 agenda” as the core of his campaign, which was on “full display” during the X Spaces interview.
The statement continued by accusing Trump of running a campaign that benefits “self-obsessed rich guys” like Musk, who, according to the Harris campaign, “will sell out the middle class” and can’t even “run a livestream in the year 2024.” The campaign also urged supporters to “chip in $25 now,” claiming that Musk was trying to seize control of democracy by hosting Trump on X.
In a fundraising email, the Harris-Walz campaign criticized Musk for using his platform, one of the largest social media sites globally, to promote Trump’s “unhinged and hateful agenda.” The email also pointed out that Musk had pledged millions of dollars to help reelect Trump.
During the interview, Trump attacked Harris, calling her a “third-rate phony candidate” and “more incompetent” than Biden. He speculated that Harris would never agree to an interview with Musk and accused her of orchestrating a “coup” against Biden, suggesting that Democrats had forced Biden to step down.
A CNN reporter asked a Harris campaign spokeswoman Adrienne Elrod: “What’s on her [Kamala] schedule for today.” Elrod answered: “She’s traveling and talking to voters and getting her message out.” CNN reporter continued: “She has literally nothing on todays schedule.” Elrod answered: “Well, yeah.”
