On Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man attempting to enter the Capitol Visitor Center while carrying a machete and three knives.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. when security personnel spotted a machete inside the man’s bag as it passed through the X-ray machine at the north doors of the visitor center. Capitol Police immediately stopped the screening process, detained the man, and secured the weapon.
Just after 2:00 p.m., our officers stopped and arrested a man who tried to get a machete into the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC).

Further inspection of the bag revealed three additional knives, prompting officers to arrest the individual on multiple charges of carrying dangerous weapons.

As officers investigated the incident, security screening at the north entrance of the visitor center was temporarily halted to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Normal operations resumed shortly after the situation was brought under control.
