Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s daughter, Kinaya Willis, was reportedly arrested last month for driving with a suspended license.
According to an incident report obtained by the DailyMail, 25-year-old Kinaya Willis was pulled over in Tyrone, Georgia, on August 24 for using a cellphone while driving. During the stop, police discovered that her license had been revoked. Kinaya is a student at Texas Southern University and is reportedly pregnant.
She explained to the officer that she was using her cellphone because her mother, Fani Willis, was calling her about matters related to her pregnancy, the report states.
Kinaya Willis, told an officer from the Tyrone Police Department that she was “unaware” her license had been revoked on May 13 for a similar offense—driving while her license was suspended.
According to the incident report, “Willis’s mother later arrived on scene to take possession of her vehicle.”
In Georgia, driving on a suspended license carries a minimum penalty of two days in jail, a fine of at least $500, and a six-month extension of the suspension. A second offense results in at least 10 days in jail and a fine ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.
Kinaya attended FAMU from 2017 to 2020, before her mother was elected District Attorney for Fulton County, defeating six-term incumbent Paul Howard Jr. During her time as a journalism major at FAMU, Kinaya interviewed her mother about “millennial justice issues and the importance of women role models in the criminal justice system,” highlighting her mother’s balancing act between motherhood and public service.
