On Monday night, President Donald Trump announced that Vice President Kamala Harris has withdrawn from their scheduled presidential debate on September 4th.
The debate, originally set to air on Fox News, will now be transformed into a televised town hall hosted by Sean Hannity in Pennsylvania.
“Kamala Harris has informed us that she will NOT participate in the Fox News Debate on September 4th,” Trump wrote.
“I am not surprised by this development. I believe she knows how difficult it would be to defend her record of flip-flopping on nearly everything she once supported, including her statements about there being ‘no fracking in Pennsylvania’ and her disastrous performance as the ‘Border Czar,’ where millions of criminals, mentally ill individuals, and terrorists have been allowed to flood into our country unchecked. She loves it—an OPEN BORDER!” Trump added.
Although specific details about the town hall were not disclosed, Trump did confirm the host and location.
“Instead of the debate on September 4th, I have agreed to participate in a Tele-Town Hall, anchored by Sean Hannity, for Fox. It will take place in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania—details to follow!” he concluded.
This announcement came just two hours after Trump criticized Harris over concerns that her leadership would bankrupt the country if she became president.
“Kamala Harris can’t explain how she’d pay for ANY of her new liberal spending schemes that will BANKRUPT our country!” he posted, listing several concerns.
“This is why it’s so important to VOTE TRUMP to stop the reckless spending!” he urged.
Trump also shared a CNN video featuring Harris responding to a journalist’s question about her economic plans.
This latest development in the presidential debates follows the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Late Monday, the Trump campaign released a statement addressing accusations against Trump’s record.
“Democrat after Democrat is lying about President Trump’s manufacturing record. President Trump presided over a manufacturing boom, delivered for American autoworkers, and ended the disastrous NAFTA trade deal, replacing it with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement,” the statement read.
“Kamala Harris opposed the USMCA and American autoworkers. The Associated Press noted in 2023 that since its enactment, ‘vehicle and parts manufacturers have actually added nearly 90,000 jobs,'” the statement concluded.
