A disturbing incident unfolded at the Almah kosher cafe in Brooklyn, where a man verbally attacked a Jewish customer who was having breakfast with his young child.
The unsettling encounter, caught on video, shows the man, wearing a pink hoodie, confronting the father and making anti-Semitic remarks, including stating that “Hitler was onto something” and describing Jewish people as “evil.”
The video captures the man accusing the father of being complicit in violence, claiming, “You guys are killing babies,” and ominously warning, “Something bad is going to happen” to Jewish people.
The man further ranted about conspiracy theories, asserting that Jewish people were behind the assassination of John F. Kennedy and alleged attempts on the life of former President Donald Trump.
Shira Asias, the 34-year-old owner of Almah cafe, expressed shock and dismay at the incident. She and her husband, who opened the cafe in 2020, have never experienced such behavior in their diverse neighborhood.
“It’s one thing to be against the war,” Asias said, “but it’s another to openly harass Jewish people and say such things. This is just antisemitism against Jewish people in New York.”
Liora Rez, founder of the advocacy group StopAntisemitism, condemned the incident, highlighting the growing threat Jewish people face in New York and across the country.
“Rising hate crime statistics are not just numbers—they reflect a terrifying reality where everyday outings are shadowed by racism and violent antisemitism,” Rez said. “No family should endure blood libel and genocidal threats while simply trying to enjoy their morning coffee.”
Reports of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States have spiked in recent years.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, more than 10,000 such incidents have been recorded in the year since the October 7 massacre carried out by Hamas in Israel, representing a 200% increase from the previous year.
These numbers mark the highest on record, underscoring the increasingly hostile environment Jewish communities are facing.
The video of the Brooklyn incident has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage as New Yorkers and communities around the country continue to grapple with rising anti-Semitism and hate crimes in public spaces.
