After Biden’s announced that he is quitting the presidential race , Senator Joe Manchin said that he will not run for president to challenge Vice President Kamala Harris. There had been speculation that he might reregister as a Democrat and run against Harris, but he has clarified that he will not be entering the race. Instead, he has proposed the idea of a “mini primary” to determine the Democratic nominee.
In an interview with CBS News, Manchin confirmed that he would not run for president but expressed support for establishing a “mini primary” to select a Democratic candidate.
“I am not going to be a candidate for president,” Manchin stated. “I am a candidate for basically speaking to the middle of this country.” He advocated for a “mini primary” to “find out if you have the strongest candidate,” noting that many people have called for such a process.
Manchin also suggested that Harris is too far to the left, saying:
“Let’s see if she comes back.” During the interview, he praised Biden for his service as president. The West Virginia senator mentioned that when he served with Biden, they would “disagree respectfully” and maintain a positive dialogue, stating, “We call each other and we were having good conversations and always counted on Joe making the right decision.”
Manchin does not plan to run again for the Senate and has registered as an independent after serving as a Democrat. Earlier in the race, there was speculation about whether he would enter the presidential race ahead of the primaries. Harris appears to be the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, with endorsements from Biden and the Clintons. However, Barack Obama has not yet endorsed Harris.
There has been speculations between users on X, saying “Where is Biden” suggesting that he might be dead, he has not appeared in the last 5 days anywhere, the last time was when he announced that he had COVID-19 and flew to Delaware in his beach house for self-isolation, canceling the Nevada rally.
