Josh Shapiro has confirmed his attendance at a rally next Tuesday at Temple University, where Kamala Harris is expected to announce her VP pick. This follows a post from the Philadelphia mayor suggesting that Shapiro will be Harris’s VP choice.
Shapiro is among the few remaining contenders for the VP spot on the Harris ticket as the Democratic campaign progresses into August. He confirmed to the Philadelphia Inquirer that he will attend Harris’s rally on August 6, but his exact role remains unclear.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Shapiro plans to be present at the event, emphasizing that the VP selection is a “deeply personal decision” for Harris. Shapiro declined to comment on whether he would meet with Harris over the weekend before the rally.
According to ABC7, Harris is nearing her decision on a running mate and is expected to make the announcement by next Tuesday evening during the rally in Philadelphia. Harris is also anticipated to appear with her chosen running mate at the event.
Since Biden has dropped out of the race he endorsed Kamala Harris to be his successor, and be the Democratic Nominee.
Harris was chosen as the Democratic nominee through a “virtual roll call” on Friday, without winning a single Democratic primary. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison praised Harris for securing the necessary delegates without participating in the primary process.
Shapiro’s potential selection as Harris’s running mate might anger progressives who are pro-Palestinian, given that he is Jewish and has served as an Israeli Defense Forces volunteer.
