In a recent TikTok video posted on Tuesday, MSNBC host Joy Reid addressed the declining support for the Democratic ticket among Black Americans, suggesting that it would look “real weird” if they don’t vote for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Reid’s comments seem to echo a sentiment similar to Joe Biden’s infamous “you ain’t black” remark from a previous campaign. She emphasized Harris’s strong position in the presidential race, stating, “Given just the stratospheric entrance of Vice President Kamala Harris into the presidential campaign, and she has now secured enough delegates to become the nominee, you’re going to look real crazy being on the other side of that line, particularly as a person of color, but really as anyone who claims to have any connection to the culture.”
Reid’s remarks included a pointed critique of model Amber Rose and other minorities supporting the Republican party, accusing them of distancing themselves from their cultural roots. “You’re going to look real weird and real lonely, on that side. The door needs to close on Amber, and she looks crazy over there. But shut the door behind her,” she added.
Reid has previously clashed with Rose, particularly following the RNC, where Rose’s comments highlighted Reid’s propensity for race-related rhetoric.
This video underscores Reid’s belief that minority voters are expected to align with Democratic views, and those who don’t are seen as outliers within their communities. Reid’s statements reflect a broader discussion about the expectations placed on minority voters by political parties.
