At a rally in Wisconsin on Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris leaned into her history as a prosecutor, prompting the crowd to chant “Lock him up!” in reference to Donald Trump.
“I was elected attorney general of the state of California and I was a courtroom prosecutor before then. And in those roles, I took on perpetrators of all kinds: predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So, hear me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type,” Harris declared.
The crowd erupted in applause and began chanting, “Lock him up!” about Trump.
The Harris campaign reported that a few thousand people attended the rally, held at an indoor gymnasium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Harris walked out on stage to Beyoncé’s “Freedom,” according to the New York Post.
Wisconsin Democratic Chairman Ben Wikler told the outlet that he was “bursting with energy” after the rally. Harris’s “prosecutor” remarks come amid Trump’s involvement in several legal battles, which have been criticized as “lawfare.” The cases brought by Jack Smith and Fani Willis have encountered significant obstacles in their proceedings against the GOP nominee.
Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed Smith’s classified documents case against Trump, ruling that Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional, a decision Smith is now appealing. Additionally, Willis’s election case against Trump in Georgia has been put on hold pending a hearing to determine whether Willis will be removed from the case.
