Kremlin says French election first round outcome is in line with Europe-wide trends

The Kremlin stated on Monday that the results of the first round of parliamentary elections in France confirmed trends already seen in several European countries. Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally (RN) party achieved historic gains in this round, but the final outcome will depend on alliance-building efforts before next week’s run-off vote.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned that Moscow was closely monitoring the French elections and believed the first round’s results reflected a broader European trend.

“We are following the course of these elections very closely, and the trends that have previously emerged in a number of European countries, including France, are being confirmed,” Peskov said.

“We will wait for the second round, although the preferences of French voters are more or less clear to us.”
