BREAKING: Manchin says Biden must drop out and ‘pass the torch’

Senator Joe Manchin became the fourth senator to urge President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, calling on him to be a “uniter” and “pass the torch” to another Democratic candidate.

“I came to this decision with a heavy heart, but I believe it’s time to pass the torch to a new generation,” Manchin told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” on Sunday.

“I want him to be the president in these last five months of his term, to do what he can to unite our country, calm down the rhetoric, and focus on achieving peace in the world,” Manchin said. “Campaigning is an unbelievable challenge for anyone—physically, mentally, in every way. Right now, the country and the world need President Joe Biden to use his compassion and ability to bring people together, focusing all his efforts and energy on that.”
