Mitch McConnell injured after falling down Senate stairs

Senator Mitch McConnell suffered another fall on Wednesday, tumbling down marble steps after voting to confirm the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

The 82-year-old senator, who has a weakened left leg due to childhood polio, has experienced multiple falls in recent years.

According to Punchbowl News, McConnell fell inside a room, landing on his side while carrying a plate of food. Reports indicate he may have sustained bruises on his face.

McConnell was later seen in a wheelchair after falling multiple times throughout the day.

CNN’s Manu Raju reported that McConnell fell both outside the Senate chamber and inside a GOP luncheon. “A childhood polio survivor, the former GOP leader walks with a limp and has fallen several times in recent years — the most serious of which was when he fell, had a concussion, and…” Raju tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Fox News confirmed that McConnell had also fallen down Senate stairs after casting his vote to confirm Scott Turner as HUD Secretary. Fox reporter Chad Pergram stated that McConnell was assisted by Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and appeared to be okay.

McConnell’s latest fall follows another incident in December, when he sprained his wrist after falling during a Senate Republican luncheon.

Concerns over the senator’s health and ability to continue serving have resurfaced as videos circulate showing him struggling to walk following his previous falls.
