MSNBC recently hosted a panel featuring mixed-race voters, presumably hoping they would express support for Harris based on their shared heritage. However, one panelist clearly did not follow that narrative, and her response was refreshingly candid.
The MSNBC host’s question was problematic, implying that race should dictate political loyalty: “Do you feel any sort of kinship towards her as a mixed person?” Imagine if a similar question were posed to a group of white men about Donald Trump—the backlash would be swift. Yet, in this context, the assumption seemed to be that racial identity determines political preference.
One woman on the panel wasn’t having any of it. She responded decisively:
“Not personally. I find a lot of her trajectory not to be my brand of woman leader. We’ve got three major international crises going on, and someone applying to be Commander in Chief. As a woman, I want to see you do more than appeal to giggling and having a ‘girl moment’ on the stage.”
Her response was sharp and to the point, challenging the idea that she should support Harris simply because of a shared racial background. It must have been quite a shock to MSNBC, which seemed to expect everyone to fall in line with the narrative.
