WATCH: Reporter Startles NBC’s Kristen Welker With a Question Regarding NBC Downplaying Trump’s Near-Assassination

President Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday night during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Democrat donor Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired shots that were initially downplayed by several news networks, including NBC News, which described the sounds as “popping noises” rather than gunshots.

Conservative Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez confronted NBC reporter and Meet The Press host Kristen Welker about her network’s reporting at the RNC Convention on Monday. The confrontation left Welker visibly stunned and she chose to walk away without responding.

“I just confronted Kristen Welker of @NBCNews and asked her what her response was to NBC’s reporting that the attempted assassination against President Donald Trump was just “popping noises”

“She refused to comment as did the rest of the NBC crew in tow | @TPAction_”

Hernandez approached Welker with the following question:

“Kristen, I have a question. NBC reported that when Trump was nearly assassinated, it was popping noises that were initially reported. Would you like to respond to that?”

Welker, looking stunned, replied with a terse “Excuse me,” and walked away with her handlers. Hernandez continued:

“This is Kristen Welker of NBC News right behind me, the exact same network that reported after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump that it was just popping noises. Kristen, would you like to say anything?”

By this point, Welker had already left, avoiding the confrontation.

Hernandez concluded by addressing the viewers:

“So that’s your mainstream media, ladies and gentlemen. And we have CNN here, we have MSNBC, we have NBC. So this week, I’m really going to try to ask all of these media members what their response is to their networks and this faulty reporting.”
