Authorities have arrested an 18-year-old suspect who allegedly planned a mass shooting at Mooresville High School in Indiana. Trinity “Jamie” Shockley, of Mooresville, was taken into custody on Wednesday and is currently being held at the Morgan County Jail without bond.
The arrest followed a tip received by the FBI on February 11, which led local law enforcement to intervene before the alleged attack could take place.
According to WTHR, the FBI was alerted through the Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, where an individual reported that their friend was planning a school shooting on February 14.
Court documents reveal that the informant claimed Shockley had been preparing for the attack by ordering a bulletproof vest and gaining access to an AR-15 rifle. These alarming details prompted immediate action by federal and local authorities.
On the same day the FBI received the tip, Shockley reportedly told a school counselor about an unsettling connection to a notorious school shooter. Authorities say Shockley admitted to sending letters to Nikolas Cruz, the gunman responsible for the 2018 Parkland High School shooting in Florida, while Cruz has been serving his prison sentence.
Adding to the concerns, investigators discovered that Shockley was in possession of a heart-shaped locket necklace containing a photo of Cruz, raising further questions about the suspect’s motivations and state of mind.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional details regarding the weapons or any further evidence supporting the alleged plot. Investigators continue to examine Shockley’s communications and online activities to determine whether there were other individuals involved or any additional threats.
Law enforcement officials credit the swift response to the anonymous tip, emphasizing the importance of early intervention in preventing potential tragedies.
