Man detained after plowing car into crowds during Liverpool title party

A man has been detained after plowing a car into massive crowds during Liverpool title party.

The incident took place on Water Street, where thousands of fans had gathered to cheer on Arne Slot’s squad during an open-top bus parade following their league triumph.

The collision reportedly occurred just after 6:00 p.m., causing panic and halting festivities as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Merseyside Police issued a statement confirming the crash: “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre. We were contacted at just after 18:00 today, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene.”

Photos and video footage from the aftermath show a significant emergency response, with police cordons surrounding a heavily littered road. Ambulances, police vehicles, and a fire engine could be seen nearby, as stunned fans were ushered away from the area.

The North West Ambulance Service released a brief statement saying, “NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre, following reports of a road traffic collision. We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.”

Liverpool City Council confirmed it is coordinating with police on the matter:
“We are currently liaising with Merseyside Police regarding an incident on Water Street in the city centre.”

Liverpool Riverside MP Kim Johnson, whose constituency includes the affected area, expressed concern for those involved:
“I sincerely hope all those involved are safe and get home to their loved ones soon.”

The crash occurred amid celebrations that drew an estimated one million people along a 10-mile route to mark Liverpool’s Premier League victory. The event had been peaceful and jubilant until the collision caused sudden chaos.

Images taken after the incident show a person being transported on a stretcher, while another injured man was seen with his arm around a police officer for support.
