House Republicans are raising concerns over reports that Hunter Biden has been attending President Biden’s White House meetings in recent days.
“Joe and Hunter Biden have a history of leveraging their last name with foreign adversaries like Russia and China. Hunter’s involvement in official executive matters underscores the urgent need for transparency and accountability regarding the Biden family’s alleged corrupt business dealings,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) told Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) described Hunter Biden as “a walking national security threat.”
“He’s amassed over $20 million from foreign entities, including the CCP, for the Biden family. He’s also the owner of the FBI-investigated laptop from hell. Does Hunter have the necessary clearance to participate in high-level White House meetings with his dad?” Steube questioned in his statement to Fox News Digital.
These remarks follow an NBC News report that Hunter Biden has been present at meetings between the president and his top aides in recent days. He began attending these sessions after Biden returned from Camp David on Monday, the report said.
“Hunter Biden wants Joe Biden to stay president more than anyone in America. He should be concerned about what a new attorney general might consider criminal activity under a potential Trump administration. No more sweetheart deals once his father leaves office,” commented Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-Wis.).
Hunter Biden has long been scrutinized by Republicans, who accuse him of profiting from foreign business deals by exploiting his father’s political influence. House GOP leaders also suspect President Biden of participating in and benefiting from these schemes, allegations that the president and his allies deny.
Hunter Biden was recently convicted on three felony firearm charges and faces additional legal issues in a federal tax probe, with a trial set for September in California.
The news of Hunter Biden’s involvement in White House meetings coincides with increasing pressure on President Biden to step aside as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, following a poor performance in last Thursday’s CNN debate. Concerns about his age and mental fitness have dominated headlines this week.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) told Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria” that Hunter Biden has a vested interest in keeping his father in power as a shield from scrutiny.
“Hunter wants his dad in the White House because it’s his best option for protection and immunity. With a change of administration, Hunter would lose the umbrella of protection his father provides,” Ogles said.
NBC News reported that aides were “struck” by Hunter Biden’s sudden presence at White House meetings. One aide was quoted saying, “What the hell is happening?”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that Hunter Biden was present during debate preparation and dismissed concerns about his presence during Tuesday’s press briefing.
“It’s a week where more family members are coming to the White House. I’m sure you’ll see some of them on the Fourth of July,” she said.
