Socialist International officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for President on Thursday, expressing confidence on X that Harris could “make history” by becoming “the first woman President of the United States” in the upcoming election.
This endorsement comes amid ongoing criticism from her Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, and his supporters, who have labeled Harris as a “Marxist Communist.” Trump often refers to her as “Comrade Harris,” mocking her policies.
The organization, which promotes socialism on a global scale, wrote on X: “From the Socialist International, we proudly support Kamala Harris in her candidacy for the upcoming November 5 elections. We are confident she will make history as the first woman President of the United States.”
Harris has yet to publicly comment on the endorsement.
According to its website, Socialist International was established over a century ago “to coordinate the worldwide struggle of democratic socialist movements for social justice, human dignity, and democracy.” The organization brings together parties and groups from diverse traditions committed to the common goal of democratic socialism.
At a campaign rally in Michigan on Thursday, Trump stated, “This election is not a choice between Democrats and Republicans. It’s a choice between communism and freedom.”
The endorsement sparked discussion on X, particularly among conservative users, though many expressed little surprise over the organization’s support for Harris.
