The Hacienda Community Development Corp. has sparked controversy with an advertisement promoting a program that offers $30,000 to help first-time homebuyers in Oregon. However, the program has strict eligibility requirements that have drawn significant criticism.
The ad specifies that the program is “only for people who are not American citizens.” It lists examples such as ITIN holders, DACA recipients, refugees, asylees, and green card holders. Additionally, applicants must have pre-approval for a mortgage loan to qualify for the assistance.
This information was highlighted by Varney & Co., where host Stuart Varney discussed the issue with Lauren Simonetti. Simonetti expressed strong disapproval, calling it “state-sponsored discrimination.”
“This is crazy. Their goal is to open up housing and the ‘American Dream’ to non-US citizens,” Simonetti remarked.
Varney responded, “That’s why we have an open border. Because eventually these folks will vote, and vote Democrat because that’s the party that let them in. That’s what this is about.”
Simonetti added, “Part of me wants to say ‘crazy things happen in Oregon,’ but I think this will go far beyond Oregon. There is a critical shortage of houses across the United States, particularly in Oregon. And now they’re giving $30k to non-taxpayers.”
“Yeah, which will raise the price of houses,” Varney continued.
“For everyone else,” Simonetti concluded.
“Pathetic,” Varney added, shaking his head.
The discussion has sparked a significant reaction online, with many users on X expressing similar frustrations.
