“You Missed” quickly ascended the iTunes charts, reaching the top spot as Americans reacted to the shocking event. The incident marked the most severe targeted violence against a president, current or former, since Ronald Reagan. The only comparable event was when a shoe was thrown at George W. Bush during an overseas press conference during his administration.

The music video for “You Missed” was trending at the seventh spot for music on YouTube. The video opens with text highlighting the severity of the previous day’s events, stating, “The events that took place yesterday are a horrifying example of political extremism in America. During a rally, shots were fired in an attempt on Donald Trump’s life.” This is followed by the words “They missed” in red text as MacDonald begins rapping.

The song’s lyrics reflect MacDonald’s views on current political tensions: “They burnin’ the country down with their progressiveness. It started with changing what gender is. Then graduated to you’re racist if you think that your life matters and your skin don’t have melanin.” He addresses the recent assassination attempt, saying, “They don’t want peace, they want skeletons. They want men to pretend that they’re feminine. They don’t want an election, they got so offended by freedom that they just tried killin’ the president.”

MacDonald further criticizes the political left: “I used to think that the woke were misguided, but now I can see that they’re evil. Twitter is angry that Trump isn’t dead, you know who got shot? Innocent people,” referencing 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, who was killed during the assassination attempt, and others who were injured. Following the incident, phrases like “One job” and “How do you miss” trended on X.

The song continues to question the left’s stance on tolerance and equality: “Thought y’all were tolerant? Thought we were equals? I thought you valued how everyone feels? Then why are y’all celebrating an attempted assassination like you’re part of Antifa?” The pre-chorus then declares, “Thank God the left can’t aim. Thank God the right don’t riot. Welcome to the home of the brave. Freedom ain’t afraid of violence. You wish he was dying.”
