When Soren Aldaco was just 17, she began taking transgender hormones. By 19, she had undergone a double mastectomy. Now, at 22 and a student at the University of Texas at Austin, Aldaco is suing the medical providers she claims facilitated these irreversible procedures, which she now regrets.
According to The Dallas Express, a Tarrant County judge in mid-July reinstated her claims against a DFW area medical group and an individual involved in her treatment. The order ensures that Del Scott Perry, a nurse practitioner, and his employer, Texas Health Physicians Group, will face legal action. Aldaco alleges that Perry initiated her hormone treatment when she was a minor.
“[Perry] definitely had an agenda,” Aldaco told DX in an exclusive interview. “His child is transgender. I don’t think anyone is evil, but I do think he was mindless in his prescription of these drugs because of that familial connection that gave him blinders to the vulnerabilities of other children.”
Aldaco experienced complications from taking transgender hormones, including vaginal atrophy and joint pain. She says she never faced any pushback from medical professionals during her transition.
“I was not thinking about what concretely was going to happen to my body,” Aldaco told DX. “I thought about it a lot, but it was more of a fanatic, obsessive thinking.”
Following her surgery, Aldaco faced additional complications and was diagnosed with “massive bilateral hematomas,” requiring further medical intervention. She claims medical workers did not adequately consider her history of ADHD, depression, and anxiety when addressing her gender dysphoria and her desire for drastic medical solutions.
Aldaco supports Texas’ law banning transgender hormones and related medical interventions for minors, stating, “I think Texas is effective in many ways, but I do wish we had a more standardized therapeutic approach for these children who are struggling with reconciling their sex. I do not think people under 18 should be making such permanent medical decisions.”
Aldaco’s lawsuit is part of a growing trend. In 2023, a 25-year-old North Carolina woman filed a lawsuit against doctors who facilitated her sex change when she was only 15. Detransitioner Prisha Mosley told Charlie Kirk, “I was promised male puberty, and instead I got menopause,” highlighting the severe and irreversible side effects she now endures.
Similarly, Chloe Cole, who began transitioning as a minor, testified before the U.S. House of Representatives about her traumatic experience with “gender-affirming” care. Cole urged lawmakers to end child sex changes, detailing how her parents were manipulated by a “gender specialist” into consenting to her medical procedures.
Contrarily, Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, has made such treatments more accessible to minors. Walz signed HF 146, the Trans Refuge Bill, making Minnesota a “refuge” for children seeking gender-affirming treatment. This law allows the state to take temporary emergency jurisdiction of a child unable to obtain gender-affirming treatment, such as when parents do not approve, and bars enforcement of subpoenas and extradition requests from other states related to prohibitions on such treatments.
The bill also prevents the removal of a child from a parent’s custody for providing gender-affirming treatment.
