Donald Trump’s campaign is raising concerns about a potential “conflict of interest” involving Vice President Kamala Harris’s debate preparations. According to Fox News, the Trump campaign highlighted that Harris is being coached for her debate against Trump by Karen Dunn, a defense lawyer for Google. At the same time, Dunn is also working on the Biden-Harris administration’s antitrust lawsuit against the tech giant.
The lawsuit, United States v. Google LLC, targets Google’s digital advertising practices, and the trial is scheduled to begin on September 9, just one day before the debate between Trump and Harris on ABC News. Dunn, who is Google’s outside counsel from the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, is listed as a “lead attorney” in the case.
Trump campaign adviser Tim Murtaugh expressed outrage over the situation. “Kamala Harris will never stand up to Big Tech because she’s being coached on what to say in the debates by Google’s top lawyer,” Murtaugh said. “It’s outrageous — their administration is suing Google, but Harris is taking political advice from the defendant’s lawyer.”
Murtaugh further argued that the situation presents a clear conflict of interest. “Any first-year law student knows that’s a conflict of interest,” he stated. “But it’s not surprising because Big Tech and the Biden-Harris White House have been conspiring to censor and trample the rights of law-abiding citizens since they gained power.”
He also pointed out that the Harris campaign hasn’t attempted to conceal their relationship with Dunn, noting that it’s all visible to the public. Murtaugh referenced the fact that when Dunn joined the Harris team, it was made known across multiple outlets. “Some prosecutor she is,” Murtaugh remarked, adding, “She’s being coached by the defendant’s lawyer.”
Additionally, the Trump campaign has criticized Harris’s recent attempts to change the debate format, where she has requested a seated debate and the ability to use notes. They argue that Harris initially agreed to the rules that were set when President Biden was still in the race, and that she is now trying to alter those terms.
