President-elect Donald Trump has announced his selection of former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to serve as the next Attorney General of the United States. Bondi, known for her tough-on-crime policies and extensive legal experience, is set to lead the Department of Justice under Trump’s administration.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump praised Bondi’s qualifications and commitment to public safety:
“I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families.”
As Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!”
Trump emphasized that Bondi’s appointment marks a shift in the direction of the Department of Justice, which he claims has been misused for partisan purposes:
“For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans — Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime and Making America Safe Again.”
This statement underscores Trump’s ongoing critique of the DOJ’s handling of investigations involving him and his allies, signaling a broader intention to reshape the department’s priorities.
Bondi’s legal career spans nearly two decades as a prosecutor in Florida, where she built a reputation for her strong stance against violent crime. She served as Florida’s attorney general from 2011 to 2019, becoming the state’s first woman to hold the position.
During her time in office, she was lauded for her efforts to tackle human trafficking and fight against opioid abuse, as well as her initiatives to protect consumers from fraudulent practices.
In Trump’s first term, Bondi was a key member of the President’s Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission. Her leadership in this role contributed to policies aimed at curbing overdose deaths and addressing the broader drug crisis.
Trump’s statement reflects his personal confidence in Bondi’s abilities and dedication to his “America First” agenda:
“I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!”
